Product Manager - Europe

We're looking for an experienced product manager to join our team and help us bring independent open source publishing software to the world.

Full-time · Remote

Hey there! We're looking for a new member to join the Ghost team, maybe that's you?

We're a non-profit organisation on a mission to create modern, independent publishing technology to power the future of online journalism.

You won't find any unicorn glitter or exponential curves around here, just a real company with a sustainable business which has been profitable from year 1 and has been growing healthily ever since. Currently our annual revenue is $9,500,000+. We're very transparent about our mission and our metrics, you can read all about us.

Ghost is a full stack web application for running independent publications. It’s one of the most popular modern open source projects in the world, and is used in production by tens of thousands of websites and companies.

Chances are you've already visited and read sites which run on Ghost! Our users include renowned publications like 404 Media, Platformer, Tangle, and many, many more.

As the company grows, we're looking for a Product Manager as excited as we are about independent publishing (and the bright future ahead of it) to help guide, shape, and execute on what we build next. This is a senior role reporting to our VP of Product, with plenty of freedom to help evolve and refine our product.

This role is open to candidates in time zones between UTC−0 and UTC+2.

About the work

At Ghost, we place a heavy emphasis on learning, craft, and the quality of what we build. We don't A/B test 50 shades of blue to determine what converts best — we form ideas based on a deep understanding of our customers (we call them publishers), then validate those ideas by building iteratively on our way to complete solutions that we love.

The role of product management is changing fast. The lines between product, design, and engineering are blurring — and the best PMs aren't just managing that process anymore, they're working across it. We're looking for someone who's already using AI to prototype, research, and ship faster. Not theoretically interested, but a builder who's expanding what they're capable of and rethinking what a small team can do.

Our product teams operate autonomously, made up of 2–4 product engineers and a product designer, with everyone responsible for making great product decisions along the way. As Product Manager, you'll empower each member of your team with the context and confidence to make those decisions — guiding them through the messy process of building product, from idea to launch.

This role is perfect for someone hungry for meaningful work, and the space to do it. Work at Ghost is complex and challenging, but deeply rewarding. Our hope and expectation is that this role will help influence our product over the long term — not just execute on PRDs handed down, but think strategically and help craft a clear vision for what we build next.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Collaborate with Product leadership to create a compelling roadmap for your team(s), in line with our broader company goals and initiatives.

  • Leverage AI tools across the product development lifecycle — from research and discovery to prototyping, writing, and shipping — to move faster and raise the bar for what a small team can accomplish.

  • Engage in product discovery — user research, customer interviews, data analysis — to get to know our publishers, identify opportunities to make Ghost more valuable for them.

  • Drive a team of engineers and designers to execute on those ideas, helping them learn, empathize with publishers, and develop a product mindset – empowering everyone on your team to make great product decisions.

  • Craft product marketing and positioning for newly built features to tell the story of why they matter, not just what they do.

  • Collaborate across the organization, especially with our marketing and support teams, to ensure launches are smooth and seamless.

  • Clearly define what success looks like for what we’re shipping, and regularly report on the impact your team’s work has had across the company.

Ideally, we're looking for someone who has...

  • Deep, hands-on product management experience leading team(s) in a software context. Bonus points for experience in digital media, creator-focused companies, or online CMS / site building tools.

  • You're actively using AI in your day-to-day work. Whether it's prototyping with tools like Claude Code or Codex, using LLMs for research and analysis, or finding creative ways to automate repetitive work.

  • You’re confidently independent, and have a firmly grounded product sense backed by experience building thoughtful, well-designed products.

  • You care deeply about shipping and getting stuff done. Not just talking about it.

  • You’re a clear communicator. As a remote team, concise written communication is absolutely essential.

  • You have a strong technical foundation that allows you to understand and scope potential solutions with engineers. You don’t have to know how to code, but you do have to be comfortable talking about it.

  • Total comfort working in a 100% remote environment, at a small company. Ghost is around 35 people, and we intend to stay small.

What it's like to work here

In 2020, a large number of companies became 'remote' for the first time, and immediately transformed their conference rooms into Zoom calls as they sought to embrace a new world order: Micro-managing people... from a distance.

Ghost has been fully remote for more than a decade, so our entire culture has been shaped around that from day one. Since 2013, we've carefully crafted a calm working environment based on trust and autonomy. Most people here have 1 or 2 video calls a week, choose their own working hours, and have plenty of time for deep/focused work that takes place on their own terms.

Our two most fundamental values are freedom and responsibility, and you'll be given plenty of both. We measure output, rather than hours-worked, and believe a sense healthy impatience matters: a bias toward action, learning through shipping, and making today a little better than yesterday.

We value diversity of all types at Ghost and our team is made up of a kind, thoughtful group of people with a wide range of backgrounds. Between us, we speak 15 different languages. Some of us are single, others are married, while others are parents. We actively try to find people with different perspectives and experiences to the ones we already have. Women and minorities of any description are especially encouraged to apply!
