We're on a mission to create the world's best publishing technology for modern creators and publishers. Ghost is a successful startup, but it's also a non-profit organisation, because we're building an independent business for the long run.
Ghost is a full stack web application for running independent publications. It’s one of the most popular modern open source projects in the world, and is used in production by tens of thousands of websites and companies.
Chances are you've already visited and read sites which run on Ghost! Our users range from renowned publications like The Stanford Review and Harvard International Review - through to some of the world's largest organisations like Apple, Square, DuckDuckGo, Buffer, OpenAI, CloudFlare, Digital Ocean, Mozilla, Napster, Tinder, OkCupid and many, many more.
As the company grows, we're looking for experienced content strategists to work with us on a freelance basis and write about the emerging market of subscription commerce, premium newsletters, the passion economy and new business models for journalism.
Most commissions for content are paid at a flat rate of $300.
For select detailed, in-depth pieces we pay $400, agreed in advance. Updates to old content are paid at $75-150 depending on the amount of work involved.

We're primarily looking for detailed guides and tutorials to help modern creators and publishers succeed in building businesses around their content. This could include a diverse range of subjects such as:
Importantly, we look for content which is original (Googling it doesn't reveal that many people have already written the same thing) and actionable, so people should be able to learn or accomplish something once they've read it.

How to create a premium newsletter (+ some case studies)
Apply: Apply to the program with your topic idea, an outline of your post, and a writing sample that showcases your ability to explain your domain knowledge to others. We only accept original, first-run content.
Collaborate: If you're accepted, you'll work with the editorial team to refine your topic and outline for your piece, before getting started.
Write: Once your topic is approved, it's time to write. We provide resources, like our style/tone writing guidelines, best practices recommendations and article samples, to help you get started.
Revise: Submit your first draft and collaborate one-on-one with an editor to revise your work into a finished piece.
Publish: After revisions, your editor will send your payment, publish your article—and ask what you want to write about next. We'll share your work with the entire Ghost community and tens of thousands of other indie creators.
Repeat: Build a relationship with the editorial team by suggesting new articles that you want to write.
